The Arnprior Bluefish Swim Club is pleased to announce the start of this year’s Swim-A-Thon campaign where kids attempt to complete 200 lengths (5km) of the Arnprior pool within 2 hours!
Many Years ago… A twenty two year old fisherman from Iceland named Goulaugur Frioporsson was lost at sea with his crew of five, due to their boat capsizing. The air temperature was -2 degrees C and the water a mere 6 degrees C and Guolugur found himself alone in rough icy water, far from home.
The water could have killed him almost immediately as it did the others, but it is said that he was of “True Viking Grit”, as he remained calm and began swimming west towards the lights of his small village. He swam for six hours in rough icy seas and covered a total distance of 5 km to reach shore.
This survivor had True Viking Grit, let’s see yours on May 15, 16 and 17…and if you don’t believe my tale…Google it! See you in the pool and have some fun with prizes and snacks after the event.
All funds raised keep Blue Fish Going! So we need help from all our swim families to make this event successful.
Register your swimmer, make donations, or track our progress on our Swimathon Page.
If you have any further questions, please contact your Swim-A-Thon coordinator, Pat McIntyre.
